Rain rain go away

Happy Friday to all! I only wish that the dreary weather in Dallas would go away.

However, wearing these earrings today is helping me to think about the sunny warm weather we will get next week.

What is gold filled wire?

In most of my gold jewelry designs, I use 14k gold filled wire. I use it because it is tarnish resistant, looks like gold, and costs a lot less than pure gold. But what exactly is gold filled wire?

Gold filled wire is made by forming a tube of gold (10, 12, or 14kt) and filling it with a base metal (usually brass). The gold content is 5%, or 1/20th of the total metal content of the wire. This is not the same as gold plated – gold filled contains 100 times more gold than does gold plated. Gold filled wire is strong, durable, resistant to tarnish, and should last a lifetime without showing signs of wear.

Shades of Blue

Pink and green, yellow and gray, or how about shades of blue? The monochromatic look is big for weddings this year. Take a peak at the turquoise and lapis lazuli bridesmaid earrings I created for a 2012 bride.

Garnet: January Birthstone

Don't you just love the deep red color of garnets? I especially love them with gold hardware. They compliment each other perfectly.

Garnet, the January birthstone, is most commonly red but can also come in other colors like green and brown. And now you learned something new today. :)
